Our ACL Div. 3 team were somewhat unlucky to lose out to Multyfarnham on Saturday. The minimum margin (1-10 to 2-6) separated the sides at the final whistle whilst our ACL Div. 1 team secured a two-point victory (3-5 to 2-6) over Tyrrellspass on Sunday in a tough, intense physical game that reacquainted the players to the physicality of senior football after the winter recess. A strong wind blowing directly towards the dressing rooms favoured Tyrrellspass in the first half and Shamrocks were in a strong position at the interval as the sides were level when referee Micky Murtagh blew the half-time whistle. The sides were level (1-2) each after fifteen minutes. The Geraghty brothers were causing problems for the Shamrocks defence and were responsible for the home side's scores at this stage. Micheál Curley continued where he finished last year and one of his typical surges took him through the Tyrrellspass defence where his wingback partner arrived at his side to collect a pass and finish to the net for Shamrocks' opening score. Ross Corroon made the journey from the goal and pointed a difficult free into the wind and Alan Cashman scored our only point from play to level matters. Conor Slevin, Adam Flanagan and Michael Geraghty had points to establish a three point lead for Tyrrellspass before Dean Moore with a well struck free reduced the deficit. A Dillon Matthews goal edged Shamrocks ahead. This was a really great team score that began with an Aaron Purcell back pass to Ross Corroon and dozens of passes later Brendan O'Reilly sent Pearse Corroon in on goal and Pearse's pass was finished to the net by Dillon. A Kieran Geraghty point levelled matters and at this stage Tyrrellspass were reduced to fourteen men as Conor Slevin picked up his second yellow card. Ross Corroon pointed on resumption and Davy Gavin marked his return to the Shamrocks jersey by sending a sideline kick sailing to the net with Dónal O' Donoghue distracting presence on the edge of the square a contributory factor. Ross Corroon made another trip from the goal to score his third point to extend Shamrocks lead to five points. It was our last score of the day; Micky Murtagh spotted an infringement in the Shamrocks goalmouth and Kirean Geraghty slotted the resultant penalty which proved to be the final score of the day. Another double yellow reduced Tyrrellspass to thirteen and in the final minute Eddie Moore also suffered the double yellow virus and was forced to retire too. It was that kind of match. A hard, tough physical battle, great preparation for the season ahead with Shamrocks showing many of the characteristics that secured the senior championship in 2018.
