ACL Div.3: Mullingar Shamrocks 0-11 Bunbrosna 3-10
No cause for a St Patrick’s Day celebration for our ACL Div. 3 side as Bunbrosna enjoyed a comfortable 8 points victory in Springfield. The sides were level 0-6 to 1-3 at the interval with Shamrocks enjoying the benefit of a strong wind. John O’Reilly raiding from his wing-back position kicked two great points from play to open Shamrocks scoring account but Brian Maguire’s goal in this half was the crucial score. Ollie MacNamara kicked two points and Brian Farrell (back from his winning College exploits earlier in the week) and Aaron Russell added one each before the interval.
After an even third quarter, Bunbrosna carved open the Shamrocks defence for two crucial goals finished by Daragh McLoughlin and Barry O’Meara to secure the victory. Aidan Finnan kicked two neat points. The Shamrocks contribution was limited to three points from Ollie MacNamara, with Shamrocks two final points again coming from the boot of John O’Reilly, the second one a superb long-range effort into the wind.
John O’Reilly was outstanding and it’s great to see Ollie MacNamara returning from his long-term injury and Efe cruised through midfield after his winter break.
It’s never good when you walk in the gates of Springfield and meet an ambulance coming out. On this occasion, Conor Newman was the player on board who was unfortunately injured in the warm-up prior to the game. We wish Conor a speedy recovery.
