ACL Div.3 Mullingar Shamrocks 1-9 St Malachy’s 3-3

A draw was a fair result in this ACL Div.3 League game played in Springfield on Sunday morning. St Malachy’s were ahead at the interval by the minimum margin (1-1- to 0-3) with Zach Aherne and Ross Corroon (0-2) responsible for the Shamrocks total. The highlight of this half was two brilliant blocks in succession made by Aaron Purcell which prevented a certain St Malachy’s goal.

Shamrocks probably edged the second half, but an early St Malachy’s goal was important. Points by Ross Corroon (0-3), Darren Keena and Conor Fagan, making his debut in adult football, kept Shamrocks in contention; after 40 minutes the scoreboard read 2-3 to 0-8 in favour of St Malachy’s. A great Conor Fagan goal after good play by Brian Farrell secured the Shamrocks lead but when Ciaran Glennon blasted to the net it looked as if St Malachy’s had secured the league points. Shamrocks played with a lot of spirit and launched one final attack that ended with another Ross Corroon point to level the match (1-9 to 3-3).

Mullingar Shamrocks: Seán Óg Hynes; Tomass Turks, Aaron Purcell, Niall Hardiman; Eamonn Breslin, Marc Eivers, Pearse Corroon; Brian Farrell, Ross Corroon (0-6); John O’Reilly, Darren Keena (0-1), Zach Aherne (0-1); Cormac Hynes (Conor Fagan [1-1]), Ollie MacNamara, Niall Hannigan.
