Another win and a loss in Junior football championships ...

The junior football weekend began under lights in Athlone on Friday evening when the home side were defeated in what was our best display in this championship. Shamrocks held the lead at all the break points; 0-2 to 0-1 at the end of the first quarter and by 0-7 to 0-6 at the interval. A great third quarter ended with Shamrocks leading by 1-10 to 0-10 before securing the championship points with a 2-12 to 0-11 victory. The crucial goals were scored Andrew Shaw and Darren Keena with a superb pass from Marc Eivers creating Darren’s opportunity which he finished in fine style.

Multyfarnham proved to be too good for our Junior II team in Springfield on Tuesday evening. Multy led from start to finish but our lads never stopped trying as the 0-13 scored indicates. Some of these were fine scores’; Brian Reidy on a comeback made the journey from fullback to score early in the opening quarter; Brian McGuire’s first half effort showed some of the style that made him a Tipperary inter-county player in a past life; Shane Colleary too, kicked a few fine scores as did Niall Hannigan and Mark Shaw but at the final whistle the scoreboard read 3-15 to 0-13.
