ACL Div. 5: Tubberclare 6-19 Mullingar Shamrocks 1-5.

A difficult evening in the Harbour Field for our Div. 5 side against a strong Tubberclare side. Conditions were difficult as many of our players were renewing acquaintance with the football field after absences that ranged from several years to a few months. The veteran Gary Corroon opened the scoring with a superb long-range point but the lead wasn’t to last long and at the interval Tubberclare held a 4-10 to 0-3 lead as the speedy Niall Kenny led the Tubberclare charge. Peter Bane attacking from the corner back position scored our second point and Gary pointed for the second time.

John O’Reilly goaled shortly after the restart after some great work by Niall Ouchbakou, but Tubberclare quickly regained the initiative. Two Gary Corroon pointed frees completed our scoring as Tubberclare comfortably collected the two league points on offer. Despite the scoreline a number of players performed very well and as Van Morrison once sang ‘There’ll be days like this’.

Mullingar Shamrocks: Emmet Walsh; Peter Bane (0-1), Matthew Siode, Daniel Chukwuemeka; John O’Reilly (1-0), Eamonn Breslin, Niall Hardiman; Ronan McHugh, Niall Hannigan; Niall Ouchbakou, Cormac Hynes, Mark Shaw; Matthew Maslin, Gary Corroon (0-4), James Devine.
