Back in Action

Finally after months in lockdown Mullingar Shamrocks made a return to competitive action at the weekend. First out were our Under-14 LGF team who travelled to Multyfarnham on Friday evening to play Clan na Gaels in the Under-14 LGF championship. The girls made a good start to their campaign but on this occasion the Clan girls proved to be the stronger and were deserving 5-5 to 0-8 winners after a strong second half performance.

Mullingar Shamrocks’ Under-15 got their championship campaign off to a decent start on Sunday evening in Springfield with a hard fought victory over Lilliput Gaels on a 5-17 to 2-9 scoreline. The home side began sluggishly and struggled to cope with the sublime skills of Shane Corcoran in the opening exchanges. Gradually, a better balanced Shamrocks’ side began to impose themselves on proceedings and led by 1-7 to 1-3 at Shane Maher’s half time whistle. Lilliput Gaels, minus the influential Peter Murphy, stuck to their task gamely, but Shamrocks pulled away with the improvement in accuracy of the forward division a key factor. This was a decent display with considerable room for improvement. Twenty two players saw action with Eoin Doran and Killian Kelly on the injured list. The panel of players was as follows: Phelim Creighton, William O’ Reilly, Nathan Cornally, Peter Finch, Callum Rigney, Matthew Shaw, Stephen Battle, Shane Ormsby, Tadgh Sheridan, Gavin Pierce, Luke McCabe, John Ryan, Hugh O’ Sullivan Sexton, Adam Glynn, Alex Sheerin, Mohammed Mohamed, Ryan Kelly, Dylan Carey, John Shaw, Conor Heffernan, Gary Brannigan, Donnacha Maguire, Eoin Doran and Killian Kelly.On Sunday evening it was the turn of our boys' Under-15 team who faced the Féile champions of 2019 Lilliput Gaels in the championship. It was evenly contested until the final fifteen minutes when the Shamrocks boys played some excellent football and finished strongly to secure the championship points.
