Rince Fóirne team take home the Rob Cornally Cup for the first time ...

Our most successful team of competitors in Scór Sinsear over the decades has been our Rince Fóirne (Figure Dancing) team and last Saturday evening at The Downs the troupe added another county title to the club's distinguished Scór roll of honour. This latest win was a little bit special as the girls took home the Rob Cornally Cup for the first time. The girls danced their speciality Trip to Tipp in exemplary fashion and shaded the verdict against the strong opposition provided by the dancers from The Downs and Ballycomoyle. Mary Jo Geraghty, Úna Fagan, Zoe Collins, Shannon Daly, Maura Buckley, Kim Darby, Sarah and Katie Murphy were the girls dancing and they were coached by Patsy Rylands and Mary Doolin, two women with amazing records in this discipline. Síle Marie Martin is also part of the team and but was unavailable on the night. The win was a little bit special for Shannon Daly as the former world dancing champion was winning her first Scór title to add to the three successive world dancing titles won in Belfast, Ennis and Killarney .

The Quiz format was changed this year and took on a dual table quiz and individual questions format. The team of Conor McKenna, Paul Doolin, David Cornally and Davy Gavin finished in a close second position after the table quiz format behind the great St Joseph's team. Davy Gavin was unavailable for the second half and was replaced by last minute substitute Ritchie McKenna. Ritchie can now expect to be called up for service by Mrs Scór in the future. After a great contest St Joseph's once again finished in the winner's enclosure ahead of Mullingar Shamrocks and Ballycomoyle to win the club's tenth successive county title we believe and retain the Johnny Garvin Memorial Trophy. We send our congratulations to the champions on what is a wonderful achievement.

Katie McCarthy is one of the great champions of Scór in the club and again represented the club with distinction in the Solo Singing Competition. This is always a ferociously competitive event and on this occasion Katie's excellent rendition of Raglan Road did not find favour with the judges.

Well done to all and the best of luck to our Rince Fóirne dancers who compete in the Leinster semi-final on Saturday next at 4.00 pm in The Downs.
