Peter Smith gets his medal ...

Back in 2016 on our Lá na gClubanna day we made a presentation to a special group of people in the club. The men who captained Mullingar Shamrocks to their eleven county senior championship titles (at the time ... Eddie Moore your medal is being commissioned) were honoured by presenting them with a special medal to recognise their unique place in the club’s history. Unfortunately on that day one captain was unable to be present. That was Peter Smith who captained Mullingar Shamrocks to victory in 1988. Well on Friday night, Peter finally got his special medal in an impromptu ceremony held in Wallace's in Mount Street. A small group of august members of the club were present for the occasion as chairman Seán Hynes made the presentation. Unfortunately we didn't get a picture of the assembly but at some stage it was calculated that the eight males present had won forty-nine senior football county medals between them.

Not boasting or anything but that is a fair old record.

And the most amazing thing of all is that Peter Smith looks exactly as he did in 1987 ...
