When Ivan O'Connor and the Mullingar Shamrocks LGF team made history ...

In September 2001 Mullingar Shamrocks won the Junior B title by defeating Caulry 1-24 to 1-14, after extra time, in a replay that also extended into extra time. The win completed what was a unique collection of medals for Ivan O'Connor as can be seen from the attached photo of the extract from the Mullingar Shamrocks notes in the Westmeath Examiner. Ivan completed a near-full set of county medals ... the only one missing was a junior championship proper one.

The Aidan Daly managed team lined out as follows: Robert Wallace; John Brick, Greg Gavin, David Smith; Oísin Clinton, David Baker, Paul Christie; Jarlath Nohilly, Anthony Clinton (1-4); Gary Corroon, Ciarán Garry (0-4), Michael Walls (0-12); Stephen Corroon, Willie Conlon, David Noonan (0-3). Substitutes: Jim Gallagher, Conor Flanagan, Tony Gavin (0-1), Ivan O'Connor, Aidan Gorman and Kevin Daly.

The same weekend our LGF team also made history by winning the county junior LGF title for the first time defeating St Loman's 5-8 to 2-3. The team captained by Lisa Burke who also picked up the Player of the Match award lined out as follows: Lorna Price; Veronica Seery, Marie Monaghan, Sineád Hyland; Amy Eivers, Tanya Farrell (1-0), Natalie Kerrigan; Lisa Burke (1-0), Louise Begley (0-1); Carole Finch (0-1), Gemma Masterson, Linda Gilmartin; Kelly Eivers, Lorraine Cassidy (2-3), Ann Marie Newcomb (1-2). Substitutes: Emma Farrell, Carla Irwin, Corinne Taaffe.

And many or members of their families involved in both teams are still making a contribution ...
