The inaugural Tommy Lennon Under-10 Go-Games Blitz was held in Springfield on Sunday last with over one hundred and fifty under-10 players from near and far showcasing their skills on a typical Irish summer’s day. This tournament is to commemorate a great Shamrocks Gael who worked tirelessly for five decades to help his beloved Mullingar Shamrocks. The competition was the brainchild of Tommy’s great friend and confidante Pat Collins and it was a great success. Shamrocks under-10 lead mentor, Sean Corroon, worked tirelessly in the weeks leading up to the day, organising teams and arranging groups and his efforts were rewarded with a fantastically day’s football. Shamrocks had three teams entered along with the following clubs: St. Loman's, The Downs, Celbridge, St. Jude’s, St. Mary’s Rochfortbridge, Mullahoran and Leixlip. Seán and his fellow coaches were in place at 8.30 marking pitches while the ladies’ committee, led by Jackie Corroon, began to organise the mountain of sandwiches, buns and other delicacies, all generously supplied by the Shamrocks’ under-10 parents. Robbie Boyle and JP Crowley ensured that the scoreboard was up to date and that matches ran on time and Barry Pierce, Shane Maher, Paddy Joyce and Kenneth Gunning refereed impartially throughout the day. Thanks to the numerous people who helped to ensure a great day.
The following players represented Mullingar Shamrocks with distinction on the day: Killian Hand, Carl Keane, Conor Matthews, Scott Farrelly, Oliver Keane, Shane Boner, Ben Murphy, Sam Phillips, Padraig Regan, Enrico Mc Carthy, Ryan Mc Namee, Conor Walsh, Zach Gilbride, Alfie Rock, Colm Clinton, MJ Burke, Sam Briody, Manus Kelly, Rian Sheerin, Paddy Colleary, Nathan O’ Reilly, Oisin Gavin, Hugo Corroon, Liam Forde, Theo Kelly, John Gilbride, Ciaran Donoghue, Fionn Ledwith, Luke Kelly, Dylan Byrne, Conor Glynn and Darragh Daly and every team needs a mascot and this role was filled by the inimitable Harry Gavin.
