Congrats Westmeath ...
Well done to the Westmeath senior footballers who achieved the required result in Drogheda on Saturday and qualified for Div. 2 football next year.
The final v Laois will be staged in Croke Park next Saturday afternoon. A special word of congratulations to our own Denis and Killian who were key men in the campaign and to panellist Paddy Fagan whose injuries prevented him from playing a bigger part in the trail. County Chairman Billy Foley has been known to say 'Westmeath is a great GAA county' and the league placings now support that opinion. Division 1 in hurling, Division 2 in football, Division 1 in LGF and close to the top level in camogie. And then there is Robbie McCarthy the All-Ireland handball champion with several titles.
Not many counties can claim a similar standing in the world of the GAA. Well done to all concerned ... it doesn't happen by accident. The clamps are off and its onward and upward; no longer marooned in the lower divisions. .
