Last Man Standing ..

The final series of matches in the national football league were played over the weekend and the excitement levels in Ennis, Armagh and Mullingar were almost matched in various houses across the country as our seven still standing anxiously checked various media outlets to see whether their choices had won for the seventh successive week. Cork’s dramatic, but ultimately futile victory over Armagh, was bad news for both Steven Collie and Ty Masterson with Westmeath’s win over Longford small consolation. Ritchie O’Donoghue looked odds on for victory after Dublin pulled away against Cavan but Clare’s late goal against Tipperary saw the premier county relegated and Ritchie’s chances scuppered. That left Kilbeggan man John Quinn who had his undoubted expertise confirmed by this result, Shandonagh goalkeeper Conor Craig, Marie Whelan and Emmet Lyons still standing and all four saw victories for their sides to end the competition with a 100% record, no mean achievement across 7 rounds of the very competitive national football league. Congrats to John, Conor, Marie and Emmet and they share the €300 prize fund. Thanks to all 455 entrants for participating.
