Last Man Standing ...

They say that cream always rises to the top and that is certainly true of the contestants in our Last Man Standing competition. Nine entries made it through to round 5 this week and remarkably 8 of the 9 survived to reach the penultimate stage on Saturday week. James Lawless was the unlucky odd man out after Antrim’s lengthy journey to Waterford saw them succumbing by the narrowest of margins. Youngsters Ty Masterson and Susanna Buckley are still flying the flag for the club’s underage section although Susanna must be considered an outsider at this stage considering she has currently pointless Sligo in the penultimate stage. Emmet Lyons and Ritchie O’ Donoghue would be considered the bookies’ joint favourites if they negotiate round 6 as they have Dublin as one of their picks in the final round while Steven Collie, Shandonagh net-minder Conor Craig and Marie Whelan will be quietly confident having shown good judgement thus far and John Quinn will be looking to Kildare to bounce back from their narrow defeat to Meath.
