Under-14 Div.2 County Final: Coralstown-Kinnegad 5-13 Mullingar Shamrocks 1-10
Our Under-14 boys lined out for the Division 2 county final under lights in Killucan on Friday last. With this being the first competitive year of football for many of the boys (along with our more seasoned campaigners) it was great occasion and was preceded by much excitement in the run up since defeating Inny Shamrocks in the semi-final two weeks earlier.
The boys had a first half from hell uncharacteristically conceding four goals and going in at half time well down.
To the boys credit they came out in the second half with a point to prove and pride to restore, which they did in spades putting in a spirited second half against a very strong Kinnegad side. A fine bit of combination play between Conor Glynn (who was surely on the ball more than any other player on the field?) and Seán Dooley ended with Seán blasting the ball to the net – a just reward for the effort of the boys on the night and indeed all season. However, given the mountain to climb after the first half Kinnegad ran out deserving winners and they boys in red ran in a fifth goal deep into injury time.
When the season isreviewed in its entirety, the boys will reflect on a good year that saw a constant improvement as the year progressed.
The group has worked hard throughout and has never been found wanting for application and hard work. This very capable bunch of players that will represent Mullingar Shamrocks for years to come.
The Mullingar Shamrocks squad for the final were: Kaedon Govender, Oisín McNamee, Aaron Smith, Caolán Murphy (0-1), Donnacha Doyle, Dylan Conlon, Dylan Hanly, Evan Palmer, Gavin Mooney, James Casey, Jamie Byrne (0-2), Josh Burke, Paul Donlon, Jessie Mbiachare, John Cleary, Pau Dooley, Seán Dooley (1-1), Conor Glynn (0-1), Carl Keane (0-4), Eddie Leavy, Kian Newcombe, Eoin Reddan (0-1), Harry McLoughlin, Cian McMamee, Cian Heffernan, Rory Regan and Conor Kinehan.
