The BT Young Scientist competition is a long standing annual event showcasing the best ideas of Irish teenagers in the science, health and technology world. It was first held in The Mansion House in 1965 and has grown hugely in the 60 years since. Friday evening’s announcement of the various winners was a proud day for Mullingar Shamrocks with three of our underage players winning prestigious prizes.
Firstly, Donnacha Doyle and Dylan Hanly in Colàiste Mhuire won second place in the Junior Cert Health and Wellbeing Category. Their project entitled DiaCare: Revolutionising Diabetes Management involved the design of an app with a toolkit for teen diabetics to help them cope with living with diabetes . Well done to Donnacha and Dylan and their proud parents Garrett and Mary and Murty and Ruth. Congratulations too to Ms. Eva Acton their teacher for her work with the boys. Another young man who has represented Shamrocks with distinction for a number of years is Brian Wycherly and Brian, Dylan Kennedy and Charlie Dupuis from Colaiste Mhuire won the PTSB award in the Senior Category. Their project highlights the importance of innovation in addressing societal challenges and enhancing financial literacy. Congratulations to Brian, Dylan and Charlie and their teacher Ms. Acton.
