‘MULLINGAR SHAMROCKS IS NOT JUST A CLUB’

As we move into 2025, now is an appropriate time to recall the inspiring words of Jarlath Burns, President of the GAA,  when he spoke to us at our Dinner Dance in the Bloomfield House Hotel on Saturday 23 March last. It is our responsibility to continue to develop and strive to grow and maintain the standards that so impressed the president.

“As we gather to celebrate the achievements and milestones of your beloved club, I am filled with an immense sense of pride and admiration. Mullingar Shamrocks is not just a club, it is a shining example of what can be achieved when a community comes together with passion, dedication and a shared vision to become the best that you can be.”

“First and foremost let us reflect on the monumental achievement of your 70th birthday celebration last year. That milestone, not alone commemorates your rich history, but also marks a pivotal moment in your journey towards the future. The decision to acquire 20 acres of land for additional development is a testament to your unwavering commitment to progress and growth. With plans for two full size pitches, an underage pitch and a new clubhouse, you are laying the foundations for generations of Shamrocks to come. But these developments are not just about infrastructure, they are about creating a home where dreams are nurtured, talents are honed, and memories are made.”

“Your return to Division 1 of competitions across all age grades is also a testament to the hard work, resilience and dedication of every member in this club. It is also a testament to your collective belief in your abilities and your relentless pursuit of excellence.

“What truly sets Mullingar Shamrocks apart is your commitment to inclusivity and diversity. From your pioneering one club model, to the nine females on your officer board, and your female President, you are leading the way in creating a club where everyone feels welcomed, valued and empowered.”

Your Na SeamrÓigí nursery concept embodies this ethos, providing a nurturing environment where the seeds for greatness are planted. Beyond the field of play you have excelled in Scór and Scór na nÓg and you once again are County champions in the table quiz.

Your Gold status in the Healthy Club initiative and your role as a mentor club in the associations Green Club concept reflect your commitment to holistic wellbeing and environmental stewardship.

As you reflect on your storied history boasting 90 county titles and approaching the 30th anniversary of your four in-a-row senior titles, you should draw inspiration from your past triumphs, as you chart a course for an even brighter future.

I ask you to now to rededicate yourselves to pushing the boundaries of what is possible both on and off the field, as you and those little children home tonight in their beds safe  in the knowledge that the future of the club is in safe hands, write the next chapter in the history of Na Seamroigi Mullingar.

Let us not forget the invaluable contribution of the Gaelic4Mothers & others section of the club - a testament to the inclusive nature of your club and the power of community.

“I know you will carry forward the ‘spirit of Mullingar Shamrocks’, a spirit defined by resilience, inclusivity and unwavering dedication. I hope that you will continue to inspire to innovate and to strive for greatness knowing that together we are unstoppable. Go raibh maith agaibh. Here’s to many more years of success and camaraderie”.
