Mullingar Shamrocks 71 Year's Old Today and a dream comes true during our 70th Anniversary ...

Today (16 January) is Mullingar Shamrocks’ seventy-first birthday!
On this date in 1953 (a Friday night), at St Mary’s Hall, the club was founded. It was decided that ‘as the hurling club [Pearse's] was still in its infancy it would be unwise to burden it with a football team’. Instead a separate football club Mullingar Shamrocks was formed. The members of Pearse’s were determined that the footballers of Mullingar ‘would no longer be left orphaned and abandoned to be eventually lured away to the winter sodden fields of alien associations or to become the adopted children of a country club.’

What better way to recognise this birthday than to publish a few pictures of what the future might look like on our extended new grounds. The opening phase may involve the development of a championship standard, flood lit playing field and juvenile pitch with new entrance, with parking and ancillary facilities. The remainder of the lands will be developed by the addition of a second full size playing pitch, a new club house and a perimeter walking track.

Our Founding Fathers would be proud.
